About Us

HISTORYStJohns225
The parish of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Tuckahoe, was established in 1789, and in 1798, members erected our historic church building, which underwent a comprehensive restoration several years ago. Click here for a history of the church published in 1946, on the occasion of St. John's' sesqui-centennial.

WHO WE ARE
We are a diverse community of worshippers residing locally and throughout Westchester and the Bronx. While some of our members are "cradle" Episcopalians, many others come from a variety of faith traditions or no specific religious background. We welcome all worshippers and inquirers alike.

WORSHIP
Eucharist (Mass/Communion) Sundays at 8:30 & 10AM (9AM in summer). Occasionally we offer Morning Prayer in place of the Eucharist. Feast days as announced. All baptized Christians of any denomination are welcome to receive communion at our Lord's table.

SUNDAY SCHOOL
From September through June, children 4-12 attend Sunday School, except for the first Sunday of the month when our children's choirs sing in church. If you prefer, your child is welcome to remain with you in church throughout any service. We do not offer childcare, but babies are always welcome in church – we understand if they get fussy. If you are interested in erolling your child in Sunday School, please contact the parish office. You do not need to be a member or attend church yourself for your child to participate.

MUSIC
A professional organist/music director oversees our music program and Adult and Children's Choirs. Children present anthems monthly in church and attend weekly rehearsals where they learn not only the songs but the fundamentals of music and performance. If you are interested in one of the choirs for yourself or a family member, contact the parish office.

FELLOWSHIP
We enjoy many fellowship opportunities, including our weekly coffee hours following the 10AM Sunday service, pot-luck meals, book clubs, game nights and more. Volunteers enjoy staffing our Red Door Thrift Shop.

OUTREACH
Service to our neighbors, far and near, is who we are at St. John's. Please click the Outreach link on the homepage to learn more about the ways we serve.

NURSERY SCHOOL
Butler Nursery School
