Outreach

In an effort to reach out and help our neighbors, near and far, St. John’s is committed to a number of Outreach ministries. We support New York state farmworker families through Rural and Migrant Ministry (RMM). We distribute holiday cheer bags to Jansen Memorial Hospice patients and support the Eastchester Community Action Partnership (ECAP) food pantry. Sunday School children sponsor a child in Colombia through The Rise and Walk Foundation.

Here are some specifics about the programs we support:

WestCOP/ECAP FOOD PANTRY
Each week our parishioners bring non-perishable food items to church that are brought to the ECAP food pantry, serving families in need in Eastchester and Tuckahoe. At holiday time, we make special collections in collaboration with our nursery school, Butler Nursery.

LUE TOY FUND
In memory of a long-time parishioner, Yvonne Lue, a toy fund was established to provide toys for children in need at Christmastime. For the past several years, the Lue Toy Fund has supported the RMM Christmas Store (see below). Any monetary donations earmarked for the toy drive will go through the Lue Toy Fund, which purchases the toys each year. Contributions are welcome throughout the year.

RMM TOY DRIVE
As we have done for a number of years, St. John's collected toys for the Rural & Migrant Ministry's Christmas Toy Store, where parents of farmworking and other rural families were able to purchase gifts at highly discounted rates. Unlike other toy drives this empowers parents to select gifts that they know their children will enjoy. Proceeds from the Toy Store benefit RMM's women's group, The Daughters of Sarah, which sponsors an annual Rural Women's Assembly in early December.

ANONYMOUS PROGRAMS
Several 12-step programs meet at St. John's during the week, including NARANON, Gamblers Anonymous and FAA.

OTHER COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
Although not direct minististries of St. John's, our space is host to an after-school program and a children's physical therapy program. We also host the monthly meeting of the local neighborhood association.
